Boat Ladders
Boat Ladders Help You Board Boats While On The Dock Or In The Water
Boat ladders are an important piece of boating equipment. They are used on the outside of the boat and on the inside. Depending on the size of the boat, different styles of ladders are used.
For large boats, a dock mounted ladder is situated at the stern of the boat while on smaller boats there is a ladder to assist swimmers to climb aboard the boat from the stern. There are also side boat ladders that are removable and hook onto the side of the boat for use in climbing in from the dock or from in the water.
Boat ladders are typically made of fiberglass and fold up and out of sight. The rungs are unbreakable and they do not sink in water, a helpful fact just in case the ladder falls overboard. For inside use, these ladders are often used to climb from the stern to the crow’s nest, where the captain steers the boat. They are also used inside cabins to climb to a different level or to climb up onto a bunk bed or loft style bed.
Ladders are as important to boats as bumpers, ropes, and floatation devices. They are there for practical use, but also for safety reasons. If someone falls overboard, a foldout side ladder can be hooked onto the side for quick recovery. In smaller boats, a foldout permanent ladder is attached to the swim platform for divers and swimmers to get in and out of the water. And in even smaller boats the ladders is mounted to the stern with a piece that folds up when not in use. The bottom piece folds out and submerges into the water about two feet, making it easy for the swimmer to start climbing up while still in the water.
Boat ladders are a necessity and no real captain could run his boat without one. Even the smallest boat is hard to get in and out of from the water. Without a ladder, it could be impossible to get back in the boat after a swim, dive or water skiing adventure. Boating is a fun sport that allows us to adventure out into the wild blue yonder, free to explore beyond the boundaries of the land. Boat safety is always of the utmost importance and every boat should be equipped with enough life preservers for each person on the boat. A radio is also a great idea in case you run into trouble. The ocean has a life of its own, respect it at all times and your boating experience will be fulfilling.
