Bunk Bed Ladders Make It Easy And Safe For Your Kids Beds

Bunk beds are two beds stacked on top of each other, allowing two people to sleep in each bed with more floor space in the room.  They are used most notably in children’s rooms, on ships, in army barracks, in dorm rooms, in summer camp cabins, in hostels and in prison cells.  Bunk bed ladders come with the bed set up, to allow the top bunker to get into bed.

The bottom bunk posts at each corner are elongated to prop up the other bunk on top.  The ladder is typically located on the side of the bed at the bottom and there is usually a railing running the length of the bed to protect the top bunker from falling out.  There is a cut out for the ladder at the bottom of the bunk.  Some bunk bed ladders are built in, while others are hooked on.

There are a variety of styles when it comes to bunk beds.  Standard bunk beds are those that include two twin bed mattresses, stacked in the same direction, one over the other.  There are also Twin Over Full bunk beds where the bottom bunk is a full size mattress and the top bunk is twin size.  A Futon Bunk looks like a twin bunk bed, but the bottom bunk folds up into a futon couch when not being used as a bunk.  These are great for use in a studio apartment.  An L-Shape Bunk is usually twin sized mattress where the bottom bunk is at a right angle to the top bunk at the bottom half of the top bunk.  This creates space under the top half of the top bunk.  Typically that space is used for a desk or chair.  A Loft Bed is really not a bunk bed, but is a top bunk with no bottom.  This is popular in dorms, where a desk can be put under it, saving space.  All styles of bunks beds, including the Loft Bed uses bunk bed ladders to get to the top bunk.

Most bunk bed frames are made of wood and the bunk bed ladders are of the same matching wood style.  If the bunk bed frame is made of metal, so is the ladder.  Typically, the ladder has about 4 steps with an opening at the top.  A sturdy ladder is important for safety reasons, especially with children.  Bunk beds with permanent ladders are safer than the hook on kind.  Parents are encouraged to make sure that children use the ladder and do not climb up or jump down.
